Our admission process is designed to be straightforward and warm. We welcome students of all backgrounds who carry a sincere love for classical dance. Here is how to begin:
Reach out by phone or email. Tell us about the student's age, experience level, and what draws them to Bharatanatyam. We will respond within one business day.
We invite every new student for a complimentary trial class. This allows Guru Thamarai to understand the student's aptitude, and allows the student to experience the studio's atmosphere before committing.
Once you are ready, complete the simple enrollment form and join our family. We will guide you on the appropriate batch, class schedule, and everything needed to begin this beautiful journey in classical arts.
Common Questions
We welcome students from the age of 5 onwards. Younger children (ages 5–7) join our introductory Balanartyam programme, which focuses on basic rhythmic awareness, posture, and playful exploration of movement. Formal Bharatanatyam training typically begins at age 7 or older. Adults of any age are also warmly welcome — it is never too late to begin your journey in classical dance.
No prior experience is required. We have programmes designed for complete beginners as well as intermediate and advanced students. During your trial class, Guru Thamarai will assess your current level and place you in the batch that best suits your background and learning pace. Dedication and enthusiasm are the only prerequisites.
Classes are held Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We offer multiple batch timings throughout the day to accommodate school-going students, college students, and working adults. Weekend batches are also available. Please contact us to discuss which schedule works best for your routine.
Bharatanatyam is a lifelong art. However, a student who begins at the foundational level and practises consistently can expect to reach Arangetram (debut solo recital) level within 7 to 10 years of dedicated training. The journey itself — each small milestone of a new adavu, a clean jati, an expressive Abhinaya — is the reward. We guide each student at their own natural pace.
Absolutely. We believe stage experience is integral to a dancer's growth. Students perform at our annual school recital, regional cultural festivals, temple festivals, and prestigious events such as the Mahabalipuram Natiya Isai Thiruvizha and the Kalakshetra Foundation Cultural Festival. Advanced students may also participate in competitions and inter-school performances. Arangetram — the grand solo debut — is the culmination of each student's foundational training.
